about gainesvillebands.com

In an effort to better inform people about the shows and bands that the beautiful Ville-of-Gaines has to offer, GainesvilleBands.com went online September 9th 2002. The site is ASP/SQL server driven, and is hosted by 352 Media Group right here in Gainesville, Florida. All code for this site was written by yours truly (glypher) in his spare time (about 2,000 hrs and counting) using TextPad for the coding while listening to WinAmp.

glypher was born in Lancaster PA but moved to Florida in the early 80's. Growing up in Lecanto (Citrus County) he would regularly drive to Gainesville with friends to the Hardback and Covered dish to see bands like Whoreculture, Superball, Spider Monkey, and The Tone Unknown. After graduating from UF in '98 he managed to land a couple of jobs doing computer-geek type stuff. Right now he is doing web development and database design for the USGS.

In his spare time (when not attending shows) glypher can be found in front of his computer making this site better, and occasionally playing games like Counter Strike and Warcraft 3. He has also been known to cook out like a madman for some gator football games.

I just THINK i'm a stud

Name: Neil (Neil)

Favorie Local bands: One Pump Chump, The Busdrivers, Today Doesn't Count, Less than Jake, Sugardish

Neil was born in sunny St. Petersburg, FL and lived out his childhood on the edges of the ghetto, developing his thug-like attitude and way of life. Daddy played acoustic guitar in some crappy 80’s band so Neil was brought into the music world at a young age. In January 1990 Neil moved to the worst place ever: Deltona. No, not Daytona, not Deland, it’s Deltona, with its 400,000 sq miles of houses and trees. At age 16 he joined his first band. The child prodigy bass player fit in well with the odd grunge/folk with a punk edge music that the other members of the band were so intent on playing. Neil would remain with this band for 2 more years having played with acts like Unsung Zeros, Preferred 53, Capeside and many others who became good friends, and links into the music world.

Along the way Neil played in 3 side projects that just kinda sucked, but helped Neil develop his style and taste for music. In Fall 2001, Neil moved to the glorious Gainesville to attend the University of Florida, leaving his bands behind. No successful attempt at music has been made yet in Gainesville, therefore, Neil spends most of his time at shows, in the architecture studio, or trying to pick up girls on gainesvillebands.com. If there is a ska show in Gainesville, Neil is there in the front singing and dancing his heart out. You can also find him at many other random shows. If you see him, give him a big hug. He likes those.
