Hey now! This my first post to the forum. I'm not new in town nor am I new to the guitar. However, I had several layers of dust on the cases to clean off when I got them out of the closet for the first time in YEARS. I want to see if I have any chops left after all this time- doubt it.
Anyway, they need string changes and setups. Can you all recommend a reliable guitar tech or music store that does repairs/setups. I'm closest to either Lipham or Hogtowne (now at 53rd and 43rd), and I think Sims closed. Are these guys any good? Recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks! Generally, quick turnaround time? or weeks?

I'd go with Tony of Tony's Stringed Instrument & Speaker Repair. He's in the yellow pages and works out of his house off of NE 23rd Ave (near Satchel's) 352.372.0347.
He has set up a couple guitars for me (acoustic and electric) and does excellent work.

second on Tony- he did a great refret on a friend's mando- even matched the binding.

Third. I take my acoustic and/or expensive instruments to Tony. His turnaround varies from a few days to a week and some change. I'm charged $35-$45+ depending on what I want done. I usually provide the new strings that I want put on.
Do you have acoustics or electrics?
T&T's has a better turnaround time, but it costs a little more than Tony charges at $45+. I trust Tim to do good work at T&T's, and I haven't dealt with Lipham's in years.
What kind of repairs are we talking about? Changing strings is a piece of cake. Action and intonation are a little trickier, but using a strobe tuner and reference material is the way to go. Dressing the frets, bridge adjustments, neck warping repairs; those require some more skill and practice.
I usually check on the intonation and stress on the neck when I change string gauges on my electrics, like putting on 11's or 12's. With 12-string guitars, detuning a whole step is recommended when not in use.
Thank goodness you're pickin' again.

Thanks for the great info. Fortunately there are no major repairs needed. I had humidifiers in the cases (albeit they were dry now after all this time). I am originally from NY and have seen the affects of dry winters on a guitar neck if not stored properly. I suppose we don't really have to worry about that too much here in the 352. I use 10's on my Strat and Ibanez Artist and Martin "Lights" (11?) on the Ovation acoustic. I need string change outs and intonation adjusted- fairly routine stuff. Years ago, I used to be able to make simple intonation adjustments myself. Now I will leave it to the pros. Thanks again, all, and, yes, glad to be 'pickin' again, as well.

Another vote for Tony. He installed a new neck on my Japanese Tele and it plays like a dream. Great guy and very good prices.

Tom at Lipham's is good. I've known him for almost 30 years now.
Just this morning he fixed a bass while I waited (wire had come off inside control cavity and circuit was shorting). Obviously, setups aren't while you wait, but he knows his stuff.
