Flyer Submission FAQ

If you're planning on sending flyers to us here's some things you need to know:

Helping those who help themselves

We will only take flyers that will be either passed out or hung up around town. You know, because that's what "flyers" are... they're for flyering. We offer this service free so that bands can reach an audience that might not be downtown to the flyers or at the shows to pick one up.

But with that said, most flyers are only black ink (who can afford color flyers?). if you want to have a diffrent color version for our site, that's fine. Just be sure that the ones you actually pass out or hang follow the very important "payment" rule:

Small Fee (dont worry, it virtually free)

Unlike other sites that do the flyer-on-the-front-page-thing for free, GainesvilleBands.com requires a small "fee" to be paid by the band (or whomever is distributing the flyers). Far be it from us to accept any type of monetary compensation from bands. No, no, no! The only "fee" we require is that "GainesvilleBands.com" appears someplace on the actual distributed flyers.

Why? Well, think of it this way...

We make no money off of anything, therefore no advertising budget for us. The only way we're able to help the local bands (i.e. YOU) is to for you to help us.

If someone sees someone else's flyer with "gainesvillebands.com" on it, and comes to the site, there's a pretty good chance that person will notice your upcoming shows as well. It's like free advertising for you! So, the smallest thing that can be done to help out us will, in the long run, help out you as well.

Info Breakdown

Size: LAYOUT:
Width: 500px MAX
Height: ~600-~800
@ 72 DPI

FILESIZE:
as small as you can

Flyers should be sized around 500 points (pixels) in width. Whatever we receive will be resized to something that will fit on our front page.

Filesizes should be under 100k.  But the smaller you can get them the faster they will load, and more of a chance to be seen)

Type: GIF, JPG, GIF... if you have the size and resolution right, JPG's or GIFs are fine. If not, send a .PSD (photoshop) file. To be honest, we'll take damn near anything (BMP, GIF, JPG, TIFF, PNG), you're just making glyph do more work
Color: Yep or B&W I know that most of the flyers that are made will be in in Grayscale, but the online version you send us can be in Color.
GB.com: Somewhere on the flyer "Gainesvillebands.com" can appear anywhere on the flyer. Small text at the bottom is fine or (if you really want to) big letters accross the top. As long as you're promoting us we'll promote you. Remember that it should appear on the flyers that you HAND OUT or POST! Dont just send us a version with GB.com on it and then distribute another without it. That will only piss us off, and make sure you wont have your flyers here again.
Exclusive: No way Some people get miffed that their flyer will be in rotation with other flyers. Deal with it. GainesvilleBands.com is an equal oppertunity type place. If we have 3 flyers that week, you will be seen by 30% of the visitors (but probably more since most people refresh the splash page to see all the flyers)
When: at LEAST one week before I like to get things up and going one week before a show starts.
Where:

FLYERS@
GainesvilleBands.com

Submit all flyers to this address

NAMING: Plese name ALL flyers using this scheme:

YY_MM_DD_VenueName.jpg   (or gif or whatever)

NOTE!!! YEAR FIRST!!!! and please use underscores!!!

If flyers are not named and sized properly i wont be able to put them directly up.  They may need to wait a few days.

Just tryna help.

I have submitted our flyer 3 times to the email and twice on this posting.  How come you havent posted it.  Also, we have played 4 shows and put your gainesvillebands.com logo on the flyers and had you on the website for a while.  Why isnt our band on the current bands and our flyers not up.  Were promoting for Gainesvillebands.com its only fair that you guys promote us back.  Thats what your online contract and stipulations say.  Our show is tommarow now.

sorry, i was out of town for a week and a half up until wednesday.  I threw the backlog of flyers up on wednesday/thursday.

I've been busy at work, and havent gotten a chance to sit down with photoshop and fix your (and about 4 other) flyers.

most of these were:

1) the wrong height/width
2) fuckin' huge.
3) named something like OMGFLYER4OURSHOWZ.gif

If the flyer is submitted corectly (through email, NOT here) it usually gets up in a couple days.

I'll hopefully be going through the band submissions again on monday (if i'm not dead after sunday night)

I'm starting to see more and more flyers (and video flyer) posted that have nothing at all to do with Live Music, such as:

  • Community Events
  • DJ / Dance Nights
  • Guitar Hero

I was wondering what the GBdC policy was on that?

The policy is my discretion.

If there's a community event (non profit or benefit) that supports gbdc (on  the flyer) i usually return the favor by supporting it.

also, if i'm involved with the project, it helps.

hey, i dont remember seeing a dance night flyer.

well, lets see...
1) it was actually 5 days ago.
2) it was named wrong
3) you sent a 2 meg .tiff file
4) it was sized too large
5) i've been busy.

pick any one of those and it delays the flyer going up.
